About Microbial Growth
Microbial Growth
A generative branching structure that grows as the user scrolls. Starting from a single seed, branches extend, split, and proliferate into an organic 3D form — driven entirely by page scroll position. Scroll back and the structure retracts.
How it works
The tree is generated once from a fixed random seed, producing a stable structure with N generations of branches. Each branch has a normalized start and end time along a global timeline, and scroll progress maps directly to that timeline. As progress advances, branches extend, new branches sprout, and decorative rings appear around newly divided nodes. Once fully grown, the structure begins rotating slowly around its center.
Key Features
- Scroll-driven growth — the tree grows in sync with page scroll position
- Procedural generation — fixed seed, unique but stable
- Emerging animation — new branches fade in with decorative rings
- Auto-rotation — rotates slowly once fully grown
