Lately I have been reading a lot about creators talking about the marketplace changes and impact of it on the template business, and this made me think, what can be the other thing that we might not be looking for? Disclaimer: I am not a template creator, but I have been following the journey of many creators closely since I have known Framer.
I think Framer as a platform still struggles with userbase, and maybe the marketplace thing is creating an issue because the buyers are comparatively fewer and most likely they are a little tech-savvy; they know how to do the AI stuff.
I just did a Google search, and WordPress is still massive out there, and people are making money by making plugins, sites, Etsy themes, etc. from it, even though the UX and overall vibe of the platform are just meh. (I hope you get what I mean here).
But it wins because many people know it, and it is somewhat of a default, and when you land on their site, it's so basic, but it talks straight to the user's needs and feels like a website business tool. Sure, it is there in the game for a long time, so consider all those factors too.
Framer, on the other hand, is new and gives the perception of a design tool (first impressions). Again, trying to look at it from the perspective of a person who does not know Framer, I feel this can be intimidating.
Even though both platforms give the same services, Framer is just known amongst designers and tech companies. I have known so many people who are simply unaware of what Framer is (I could be wrong here, but based on my experience). Somewhere, if we are able to figure out how we can get more people to know about Framer, a lot of these issues will get solved (I mean, duh, this is true for every business; nothing genius about it). and even more opportunities will arise
This was something that struck me, and I thought I would share. Do let me know what you think and how we can overall do better. The pie is huge out there, but are we out enough?
