A LOT of the Framer templates here feel off and it's (always) the typography.
Default system stack, Inter doing all the work, no contrast between display and body. It's all fixable in an afternoon if you know where to look.
A few foundries I keep going back to:
For craft and inspiration (paid, worth it)
→ klim.co.nz Kris Sowersby, NZ. Some of the best-drawn type anywhere.
→ displaay.net Sharp, contemporary, great display families.
→ optimo.ch Traditional-meets-modern, deep catalogue.
→ abcdinamo.com Technical, variable, very web-friendly.
For actually using (free / pay-what-you-want)
→ uncut.wtf 90+ families you won't have seen on every other site. Best free catalogue going right now.
→ Fontshare.com Indian Type Foundry's free arm. Professional-grade, free for commercial.
→ Collletttivo open-source, designer-led, beautifully curated.
→ off-type.com Off-beat display faces, free to try.
→ The League of Movable Type Slightly more 2000's but some lovely open-source originals.
Pair a display face from the top list (or a strong free one from Uncut) with a clean grotesque for body, set your scale with real contrast and the whole template stops looking like a template.
And for hell's sake read some books, preferably by Müller-Brockmann, Neville Brody and Tomato. We'll make more interesting stuff that way.
What are you all vibing with at the moment?
