A few more thoughts on the designer portfolio niche.
I’m currently working on another portfolio template, mostly because I enjoy making them and had a few ideas I wanted to try.
But the more I think about it, the less sense this niche makes to me commercially.
Think about it. Designers are probably the people who need website templates the least.
Unlike a typical business owner, a designer already has the skills and tools to build their own portfolio. With Framer, Figma, and AI, putting together a relatively simple personal website isn’t that difficult.
So why would a designer pay for a template, or even use a free one, knowing that hundreds of other designers might have the exact same portfolio?
Especially when a portfolio is supposed to showcase their own design skills and personality.
And yet, my previous designer portfolio template has been my most successful one so far.
I’m genuinely curious what you guys think. Does making portfolio templates for designers actually make sense as a business?
