Legacy UI Deprecation

With the launch of Framer as a web design platform, we made some big changes to the product. We brought instant publishing, breakpoints, effects, and countless other features and put them in a fresh UI.

We also added an amazing prototyping component to the new UI, but we kept the the legacy UI around for old projects to be respectful to not change existing workflows. After almost a year, almost all users have already switched to the new interface and we’re going to say goodbye to the legacy interface.

On September 30, 2023 the legacy UI will go into view-only mode. This means you can still open and view projects, including the preview and shared view, but no changes can be made to the projects.

You will still be able to turn legacy projects into a modern project by using “File” > “Duplicate as Site” from the menu. See this article for more information.

Additionally, we’re removing all packages and legacy code support from the legacy UI. This will only affect very few users:

  • If your team joined Framer before June 10, 2021 it will have packages enabled. Packages will be disabled for all teams on June 30, 2023.

  • If your project was created before July 8, 2021 it will use legacy code (visible by the “Legacy” badge when opening the code editor). Viewing and editing this code will be removed on June 30, 2023.

While we plan to fully remove the legacy UI at some point, we will keep it available in view-only mode until at least March 31, 2024. This includes all shared and embedded legacy projects.
