Direct Download

About

Instant Download is a functional component that gives you full control over file downloads in Framer. It allows you to use your own custom-designed button without modifying styles, while enabling instant file downloads with a defined filename. Unlike the default behavior, it prevents opening files in a new tab and delivers a seamless download experience.

Setup and usage

1. Drag the Direct Download component onto your canvas.

2. Connect your design: Use the property panel to select a "Component Instance." This can be any button, icon, or frame you have already designed.

3. Upload or link your file: Add a file (PDF, PNG, JPG, DOC, ZIP, etc.) or provide a direct URL.

4. Set filename: Define the exact filename users will receive when downloading the file.

5. Preview: Lastly, Test and download file in Preview mode or published site.

How it works

The component overrides the default Framer download behavior by triggering a direct file download instead of opening a new tab. It also assigns a custom filename to the file being downloaded, ensuring a clean and controlled user experience.

Important notes

• Custom Button Required: You must attach your own button or UI element for interaction.

• File Handling: Works with all major file formats and external URLs.
