About Dogear
Dogear is a website for independent bookshops that works like walking along a real shelf. Books stand face-out at true 2:3 proportions in edge-to-edge rows that scroll sideways, and the shelves themselves tell visitors where they are: the front table, the genre shelves, the back room for readings, the club shelf and the front desk.
The navigation is a bookcase end: five cloth spines for the genres and three lying books for Events, Book Club and Visit. The current page's book is pulled out and bound in endpaper cream, and on tablet and phone the same spines lie flat in a strip under the wordmark. Hover or tap a cover and its bay floods with that book's colour. Each page wears its own book cloth (oxblood, ink blue, tobacco, bottle green), and every book page takes its genre's cloth.
Everything repeated comes from the CMS: 20 books, 9 events and 4 booksellers. Staff picks carry a bookseller's handwritten-style note. Events sit beside the book they feature, past events move to a Returned archive with one toggle, and the book club sells three membership books, not a pricing table. Purchases and RSVPs link out to your own store, Bookshop.org, Luma or Eventbrite.
The type is Libre Caslon, the classic English book face, so the site reads like a title page. Covers are fictional, so there's no copyrighted cover art. Dogear also suits used and rare dealers, bookshop cafés, small presses, libraries and book clubs.
