How the light/dark switch on Freehold winds a city time-lapse instead of swapping two photos:
1. The clip is a palindrome: night to midday, then the same frames reversed back to night. The loop ends on its own first frame, so there's never a cut.
2. The switch doesn't jump to an hour, it winds to it: playback speeds up to 8×, arrives at midday or night, then holds there.
3. Changing direction is just a seek to the mirror frame on the other half of the clip, then forward again. No reverse playback needed.
4. The colour grade is fixed for the brightest frame, so the headline never changes colour while the sun comes up behind it.
5. Phones get a 1.9 MB cut, laptops 3.5 MB, and reduced-motion or data-saver visitors get a still image.
