Apple's biggest Mac price hike in India happened at the worst possible time for me.
For months, I deliberately waited for Apple's Back to School offer so I could get the best value for my first MacBook (self earned money)
The day before I was ready to buy, everything looked normal.
By the evening, prices had gone up.
The next day, reports confirmed it.
Due to the global memory chip shortage and rising AI hardware costs, MacBook prices in India had increased by 20% to 42%, with some configurations becoming nearly ₹1 lakh more expensive.
I rushed to the Apple Store hoping the news wasn't true.
Sadly, it was.
One of the Apple executives suggested checking other Premium Partners.
I rushed to the nearest Partner Store. Already around 8:30 PM.
They checked the inventory. There was exactly one peice left with the configuration I wanted.
The only difference?
I had spent months planning to buy the Midnight color.
The last available unit was Starlight.
Then came another problem.
I had a ₹15,000 gift card waiting at home for this exact purchase.
We requested them to reserve the MacBook while we rushed back to get the gift card details. They couldn't.
The store was about to close by 9:30 PM, prices were changing rapidly, and they couldn't risk holding the last unit.
So I made the easiest hard decision.
I bought the very last MacBook with my preferred configuration at the older price, even though it meant giving up the Midnight color and not using the ₹15,000 gift card.
Zero regrets.
For the past 3+ years, I've been using an M1 MacBook that my dad bought for me. It helped me build my career.
This one is different.
This is the first MacBook I've bought with my own money.
And honestly, I don't care that it's Starlight instead of Midnight.
What matters is what's inside.
Sometimes the best purchases aren't the ones you plan perfectly.
They're the ones you almost miss.
