Since Framer 3.0 was released, I have a few thoughts about launching a template business.
Discovery looks better on paper — profiles, community features, and everything feeling more connected.
But the potential reality for template creators:
- One creator on Reddit said his leads dropped from 80/day to 14/day
- Search returns only about 3 results and is barely usable
- Building great templates isn’t enough anymore; do you need an audience first?
- Some existing templates were removed with no explanation
So, is the era of “publish and it sells itself” officially over? Do Framer creators now need to be marketers, not just designers? Or are these just some hiccups in the first days after launch?
Let’s see how it goes, but right now I have a feeling that the bottleneck has shifted from building to distribution.
