About Prelude

Building trust into the signup experience

Prelude provides authentication and verification infrastructure for companies that need to verify users, prevent fraud, and manage onboarding at scale. It handles everything from OTP verification and authentication to fraud detection, phone intelligence, and messaging. (prelude.so)

The Challenge

Authentication is one of those things users only notice when it goes wrong.

A verification code doesn't arrive, a message gets delayed, a legitimate user gets blocked, or a company ends up paying too much for verification.

Behind that simple signup flow, there's a lot happening.

The challenge was making Prelude's infrastructure feel simple while still communicating how much is happening behind the scenes.

The Design

I wanted the verification journey to be the main story.

Instead of presenting Prelude as another SMS API, the website shows how the platform handles the whole process — choosing the right route, sending the verification, retrying when needed, checking the code, and using signals to identify suspicious activity.

That makes the product easier to understand without getting buried in technical details.

I wanted the website to communicate that same feeling — there's a lot of infrastructure underneath, but the experience on top stays simple.

The Result

The final direction makes Prelude feel less like a collection of APIs and more like the infrastructure behind a reliable signup experience.

The idea behind the design is simple:

Verify the right users. Stop the bad ones. Keep the experience moving.
