I rebuilt the first screen of ASAGIRI (my Japanese tea template) after it failed a simple test: show the page to someone for one second and ask what the site is.
The old version was an atmospheric hero with a nice mist photo. It looked good and told you nothing.
Three changes fixed it:
- An eyebrow that names the business: "JAPANESE TEA — SENCHA · MATCHA · HŌJICHA"
- Products moved up. The thing you sell shouldn't live below the fold.
- One clear CTA: "View the teas"
The mood is the same, but now a stranger knows where they are in a second.
