Setup — important: Place the component as a full-width, full-height layer over the section you want it to react on, and give it the highest z-index (bring it to the front, above your other layers). The trail only appears where the cursor actually moves over this layer, so if another element sits on top of it, the footprints won't show. The layer is click-through (it won't block buttons or links beneath it), so it's safe to keep on top.
