You have finished the design, the client is happy, and the site is ready to go live. But how do you actually give it to them?
For many designers, the "handoff" is the most stressful part of the project. Do you send a Remix link? Do you ask for their credit card? What if they break the design?
A professional handoff process is what separates a freelancer from a business partner. In this guide, we will walk through the exact checklist to ensure your client receives a polished product and you get paid without headaches.
Before you invite the client, you need to ensure the "back of house" is just as clean as the front.
Remove Unused Assets: Go to the Assets panel. If you have 5 versions of the logo or unused stock photos, delete them.
Check Styles: Ensure your Text and Color styles are organized. If a client needs to change a color later, they shouldn't have to hunt through messy hex codes.
Title & Meta: Go to Site Settings > General. Ensure the Site Title and Description are written for Google, not for you (e.g., "Client Name - Home" instead of "Client_Final_v3").
This is the detail that clients notice immediately. When they share their new site on LinkedIn or iMessage, what shows up?
Go to Site Settings > General.
Upload a Favicon (the small icon in the browser tab).
Upload a Social Image (Open Graph). This is the image that appears when the link is shared.
If you don't set this, Framer will show a default logo, which looks unfinished.
There are two ways to hand over a site in Framer. Choose the one that fits your contract.
Method A: The Remix Link (Best for simple transfers) If you want to give them the site and walk away:
Go to the file menu > File > Copy Remix Link.
Send this link to the client.
When they open it, it duplicates the entire project into their account.
Note: This creates a copy. The version in your account is no longer connected to theirs.
Method B: The Invite Transfer (Best for ongoing support) If you are launching the site for them:
Click the Invite button in the top right.
Enter the client's email address.
Once they join, you can make them an Admin or Editor.
To transfer full ownership (and the billing), go to Site Settings > General > Project Ownership and select their email.
Who pays for the hosting? You should decide this before the project starts, but here is how to execute it.
If the Client Pays: Send them the Remix link (Method A). They will buy a plan when they hit publish.
If You Pay (Reselling): Keep the project in your account. You buy the plan, and you bill the client separately (often adding a maintenance fee).
The biggest fear clients have is "breaking" the site. Framer’s CMS mode protects them.
If your site uses a CMS (for blogs or team members), teach your client to use the Content panel, not the Design canvas.
Show them how to edit text and swap images without entering the "Edit" mode, where they might accidentally move a layout.
Record a 5-minute Loom video walking them through these specific tasks.
A smooth handoff builds massive trust. When you hand over a clean, organized, and "share-ready" project, you aren't just a designer - you're a reliable consultant.
Follow this checklist for every project, and your clients will be ready to refer you before the invoice is even paid.
