Members, roles, and permissions
Learn how workspace members, project members, roles, and permissions work in Framer.
Framer provides flexible access controls at both the workspace and project level. This allows teams to grant the right level of access while maintaining control over editing, publishing, and billing.
Member types
Framer supports two types of members:
Member type | Access |
|---|---|
Workspace members | Have access to all projects within a workspace. |
Project members | Have access only to the specific projects they are invited to. |
Members with view-only access are free. Members with editing permissions are billed.
For a detailed breakdown of plans and access levels, see Plans and permissions.

Role | Description | Billed |
|---|---|---|
Admin | Can manage workspace settings, members, billing, and projects. | Yes |
Editor | Can create and edit projects across the workspace. Can invite other editors. | Yes |
Content Editor | Can manage CMS content, localization, and on-page editing across the workspace. | Yes |

A workspace can have multiple admins.
Project roles
Project roles apply only to individual projects.
Role | Description | Billed |
|---|---|---|
Owner | Can manage the project, transfer ownership, manage settings, and edit content. | Yes |

Granular project permissions
On plans that support advanced permissions, project access can be customized using granular permissions.
Permission | Description |
|---|---|
Design | Create and modify layouts, pages, components, and design elements. |
Content | Manage CMS content, localization, and other content-related changes. |
Deploy | Publish and manage site deployments. |
Publishing permissions
Publishing behavior depends on whether staging is enabled.
When staging is enabled:
Any project member can publish changes to staging.
Only members with Deploy permission can promote changes from staging to the live site.
When staging is disabled:
Only members with Deploy permission can publish changes directly to the live site.
Request editor access
Viewers can request editing access directly from a project.
To request access:
Open the project.
Click Request Editor Access.
Wait for approval from the project owner.
The project owner receives an email notification and can approve the request with a single click.
When access is granted:
The member receives editing permissions.
Permissions can be adjusted later by project owners or administrators.
If the member does not already occupy a paid seat, granting edit access may result in an additional charge.
