Understanding unusual referral amounts

Learn why your referral rewards may be lower and how they’re calculated

Referral rewards can sometimes appear lower than expected. This guide explains why and how we calculate them.

Why referral rewards may be lower

The most common reason for a lower reward is that the referred user has existing credit in their Stripe account. These credits may come from subscription downgrades, early cancellations, refunds, or other billing adjustments.

Stripe automatically applies available credit to future charges. As a result, the user pays less out of pocket, and your referral reward reflects that reduced payment—not the full plan price.

You may also see $0 sales in your Creator Space. This happens because we migrated from FirstPromoter to Dub and reprocessed historical referral events. During this process, we recreated clicks, leads, and sales for existing referrals, which can generate $0 entries. These entries do not affect your actual earnings or commissions.

How referral rewards are calculated

We calculate referral rewards based on the amount the referred user actually pays after credits apply.

For example, if a user selects a $10 plan but has $9.73 in credits, they only pay $0.27. Your referral reward is based on that $0.27—not the full $10—so the payout will be smaller.

FAQ

  • Why is my referral reward lower than expected?

In most cases, the referred user used existing Stripe credits. Since we base rewards on the amount they actually pay, your reward reflects the reduced charge rather than the full plan price.

  • Why do I see $0 sales in my Creator Space?

$0 sales appear due to our migration to Dub, where we re-imported and regenerated historical referral events. These entries are expected and do not impact your real commissions.

  • Do referral rewards include credits or discounts?

No. We calculate rewards only from the amount the user pays out of pocket. Credits and discounts reduce that amount, which lowers the resulting reward.
