Optimize Third-Party Scripts
When turned on, the setting automatically optimized third-party scripts to improve Core Web Vitals.
When the Performance → “Optimize Third-Party Scripts” setting is on, it adds a small script into <head>. The script optimizes the Core Web Vital Interaction-to-Next-Paint (INP) when using Google Tag Manager (GTM), Google Analytics and other analytics/tracking scripts (e.g. Bing, TikTok, Meta, …).
Why is it important to have low INP? Google records INP in real browsers and uses it as a ranking factor.
How it works
GTM tags traditionally trigger on user interactions, meaning the browser must process tracking tasks before updating the UI. This can slow perceived responsiveness, particularly on budget smartphones, and degrade INP.
With this script, tracking is deferred until after the UI responds, yielding smoother interactions in 99% of cases. In the rare situation where a user closes the tab when a tag is about to fire, tags still fire instantly to safeguard tracking reliability.
After turning on
Over the next days, monitor your GTM / tracking accuracy. We’ve never seen it in practice, but in theory, in some extremely rare cases, there can be a drop of tracking accuracy (by 2-3%). If you observe that, it might indicate the script is not compatible. Disable the option in that case and please reach out so we can potentially update the snippet.
Result: After around ±30 days of usage, INP of your website should improve in Google PageSpeed Insights and potentially your PageRank.
FAQ
Will this make my tracking less reliable?
We’ve been running the new snippet since January 2025 and over 100 customers via a plugin we’ve offered. We and our customers have not found any negative impact on tracking accuracy.
Will this improve Conversion Rate (CVR)?
There is no guarantee for improving CVR, but there is research that shows INP has direct impact on CVR and Google search ranking. See e.g. this talk.
Do I have to use this if I use Framer’s in-house analytics?
No. If you don’t use Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager, you don’t have to. Our analytics script is engineered to stay out of the users’ way out of the box.
