Auto Translate for Localization

Keep your content automatically translated across all locales as you edit, both on the Canvas and in the CMS.

Auto Translate automatically keeps your content in sync across all locales. When you add or update content on the Canvas or in the CMS, translations are generated immediately — so you can keep editing and publishing without worrying about missing translations.

How Auto Translate works

Once enabled, any new or updated content on the Canvas is immediately translated across all enabled languages. The same applies to CMS content like blog posts and collection items. Auto Translate uses AI models to generate translations, and you can choose which model to use or leave the default Auto option selected for the best balance of speed and quality.

Enable Auto Translate

To turn on Auto Translate:

  1. Open your project’s locale settings by clicking the globe icon in the top-right corner of the editor.

  2. In the locale settings panel, find the Auto Translate toggle and enable it.

  3. Optionally, choose an AI model from the model selector, or leave it set to Auto.

Once enabled, translations happen automatically in the background as you make changes.

Translate all content at once

If you’ve added a new locale or want to update all translations across your project, use the Translate All action:

  1. Open the Localization view by clicking the globe icon.

  2. Click Translate All to update all locales at once, or select a subset of locales to translate.

This is useful when bulk-translating existing content after adding a new language to your project.

Translate specific layers or pages

For more targeted control, you can translate individual elements:

  • From the Canvas — right-click any layer and select Translate Content to translate that specific layer across all locales.

  • From the Pages panel — right-click a page to translate all translatable content on that page.

Choose an AI model

Framer offers multiple AI models for translation. You can select your preferred model in the locale settings, or leave the selection set to Auto to let Framer choose the best model. Each model varies in speed, cost, and translation quality — the Auto setting balances these factors automatically.

Auto Translate and the CMS

Auto Translate works with CMS content as well. When you create or update a CMS item (such as a blog post), its translatable fields are automatically translated into all enabled locales. This keeps your multilingual CMS content in sync without manual translation work.

Review and edit translations

Auto-generated translations can always be reviewed and manually edited in the Localization view. Use the status filters (New, To Review, Done) to track which translations have been reviewed. Any manual edits take priority over auto-generated translations.

FAQ

  • Does Auto Translate work with CMS content?

Yes. When you add or update CMS items like blog posts, Auto Translate automatically generates translations for all translatable fields across your enabled locales.

  • Can I translate specific layers instead of the entire project?

Yes. Right-click any layer on the Canvas and select Translate Content to translate just that layer. You can also right-click a page in the Pages panel to translate all content on that page.

  • How do I choose which AI model is used for translations?

Open your locale settings (globe icon), and use the model selector next to the Auto Translate toggle. You can pick a specific model or leave it on Auto to let Framer choose the best option.
